Advocacy

The Connecticut Association of the Deaf (CAD) is committed to advocating for the rights and accessibility of the Deaf, Hard-of-Hearing, and DeafBlind communities in Connecticut. We work with legislators, organizations, and businesses to ensure equal access to education, employment, interpreting services, and public accommodations. Through policy initiatives and legal advocacy, CAD strives to remove communication barriers and promote full inclusion for the Deaf community.

Access

Everyone deserves equal access! CAD helps make sure Deaf, DeafBlind, and Hard-of-Hearing people can use interpreted, captioning, and other supports in daily life. We work to remove barriers and make the world more Deaf-friendly.

Education

CAD provides educational resources and workshops to empower individuals and raise awareness about Deaf culture, American Sign Language (ASL), and accessibility rights. We work to ensure that Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing individuals have access to quality education, while also educating the broader community about Deaf experiences. Whether through training sessions, informational materials, or collaboration with schools, CAD is dedicated to fostering a more informed and inclusive society.

Technology

CAD supports new technology that helps the Deaf community. We promote and educate people about video phones, captioning, hearing devices, and other tools that improve communication.

Employment

Deaf people can work anywhere! CAD helps connect Deaf job seekers with career resources and job opportunities. We also teach business how to support Deaf employees and create equal workplaces.

Civil Rights

Deaf people have rights! CAD helps protect civil rights by working with lawmakers and the community to fight against discrimination. We believe everyone should be treated fairly.

Communication

Good communication is important! CAD works to improve access to interpreters, captioning, and Deaf-friendly services. We also teach business and schools how to better communicate with Deaf people.

Empowerment

CAD helps Deaf people become leaders. We provide mentoring, leadership programs, and training to help Deaf individuals gain confidence and succeed in life.
